Wide-spread protected areas of Podlachian voivodeship– Poland.

This work describes widw-spread protected areas of Podlachian voivodeship in northeast Poland. It includes National parks (Białowieża National Park, Biebrza National Park, Narew National Park and Wigry National Park), Landscape parks (Łomża Landscape Park of the Narew River Valley, Knyszyn Primeval Forest Landscape Park, Landscape park of Suwalki) and Important Bird Areas of european system Natura 2000 (Marshy Valley of the Narew River, Wizna Swamps, Biebrza River Valley, Lower Narew River Valley, Upper Nurzec River Valley, Upper Narew River Valley, Grodek–Michalovo Basin, Narew River gabs, Białowieża Forest and Knyszyn Forest).

In this voivodeship are represented the best conserved rest of lowland primeval forests and river valleys. The landscape was created by glacier in the last ice age, which left there beautiful lakes, including the biggest lake of this region – Wigry.

Białowieża National Park is situated on the borders of Belorussia in the modele of huge forest komplex of Białowieża primeval forest. The seat of park directory and the centre of the park is village Białowieża. The national park protects one of the latest european lowland forest, along with big population of European Bison. 

Biebrza National Park is the biggest national park in Poland. It protects alluvian plain of the river Biebrza along with surrouding area for which are typical cutoffs, spring floods, peateries and mud forests. The seat of park directory is a small village Osowiec Twierdza.

Narew National park protects alluvian plain of the river Narew. It lies on the southwest from Białystok. The seat of park directory is Kurowo.

The last referenced is Wigry National Park, which protects the countryside around wide glacial lake Wigry. The seat of park directory is Krzywe near Suwałki.

For all national park is typical rich history and interesting culture. For tourists is prepared a lot of interesting experiences with local nature.

On the area of Podlachian voivodeship we can visit 3 Landscape parks. Łomża Landscape Park of the Narew River Valley protects the river valley, charakter of another two landscape parks is mostly forestal. The seat of park directory is Drozdovo and the nearest biggest city is Łomża. The seat of Knyszyn Primeval Forest Landscape Park is Supraśl. This area is located in the close neighbourhood of Białystok, capital of Podlachia.

The seat of Landscape park of Suwalki direktory is in Jeleniewo.

On the Podlachian voivodeship is actually one more landscape park – Narew Landscape Park. But it is only quiet zone of Narew National Park.

All of the mentioned areas are excel for its fauna and flora diversity.

Protected areas in Podlachian voivodeship are endangered by many factors. Very actual are two causes. Building-up of the highway form Warsaw to Helsinki called Via Baltica and also timber felling in Białowieża primeval forest. .
